Pool Project: A Pool for All Seasons
For Swimming proposes to build a 25-yard, year-round pool covered by an Asati Air Structure, accessible to all residents of Rockbridge County. The pool will provide space for water safety classes, swim lessons for all ages, aquasize classes, open swim for families and lap swimmers, club, high school and master swimmer practices, as well as other sports such as water polo. Additionally, the pool will expand the capacity and programming possibilities for the Lexington Municipal Pool during the summer months. The project will include construction of a year-round pool house with locker rooms, office & meeting rooms, pump room, and storage.
Need:
At this time there is no pool facility open to the public during the winter months. The local swim teams (high school, club and masters) have relied on the generosity of Washington and Lee University and Virginia Military Institute for pool time. The growing internal needs of these institutions, coupled with the growing swim programs in our county, have led to a serious shortage of pool space that threatens not only the continued growth of these programs, but their very existence.
